About re-keying

Beginning March 1, 2006, we will be charging tenants a re-key fee for all new leases. What this means is, when you move into one of our managed properties, the only people with keys to your unit will be Coldwell Banker Best Sellers and you- not former tenants.

Re-keying a rental unit is the law in some states. While it isn't in Nevada, it only makes sense to make sure that new tenants have a fresh set of keys. How many key copies did the former tenant make? Who did he give them to? Where are they now? Will cousin Reggie- who hasn't seen the old tenant in years- stop by with his key and help himself to your fridge some afternoon? These are the issues that are neatly side-stepped by re-keying all the locks in your home.

At the same time, the locksmith will check the condition of the locks and make sure the rental can be properly secured.

Maybe you have given out copies of keys to someone you wish you hadn't and now want the property re-keyed. DO NOT REKEY THE UNIT- tell us and we'll have it done by a certified locksmith. We don't want your cousin Reggie changing all the doorknobs or trying to rekey the property, because (a) he'll do a lousy job- you know Reggie- and (b) we need working keys.

Through a special agreement with Alpine Lock of Carson City, most of the units we rent can be re-keyed for only $60.00 - a $40.00 service call and $10.00 per lock. Some properties may have more than two locks that need to be changed, and therefore may cost a little more.
